Travel Mishaps to Remind Us Why Staying Home Has Its Benefits

Travel Mishaps to Remind Us Why Staying Home Has Its Benefits

We thought now might be a good time to remind us of all those mishaps that occur when we travel by sharing some true stories from our travels…

1.          Having your kid pee in a plastic bottle on a car ride so you don’t have to stop, but he misses and pees a little on your seat.

2.          Every single time we are called to board the plane, my wife chooses that time to use the bathroom. (true. I would rather use the airport bathroom than the plane bathroom and who wants to be on the plane longer than you have to be?…)

3.          Your kid vomits in the airplane bathroom shortly into the flight and renders the bathroom a “hazmat area.”

4.          Leaving one of your kids at a rest area because each parent thinks he is in the other one’s car.  (Is it still a “mishap” if you leave the same kid at a McDonald’s on another occasion?)

5.          When you travel across the country to visit your brother only to find his entire family has the stomach virus.  Within 48 hours, the majority of your family has the stomach virus, so your brother and his family get to do all of the fun stuff you’ve planned, while you are holed up in a hotel room with your vomiting kids.

6.          When your daughter is vomiting on the plane and you try to get your husband to help you only to discover he has his headphones on and is jamming to Miley Cyrus’ Party in the USA, oblivious to your despair.

7.          Traveling before the cell phone era, our friend’s sister cut herself badly right before they were due to get on a plane to head back home.  In the commotion and confusion of getting her to the plane, using multiple cars to get to the airport, somehow her father was left in Florida.  True story!

8.          Or, when your father somehow loses his passport in Rome and has to stay back to go to the US Embassy while the rest of your family stays with the tour and hopes he is able to meet up with you in a few days.  Again, before the cell phone era…

9.          How about the family car trip where you end up passing the trash can during a 9 hour drive because everyone is sick at the same time?

10. Trying to sleep on the grimy airport floor because you are so exhausted from preparing for your trip and traveling to the airport and arrive only to find your flight is delayed until the wee hours of the morning.

Sometimes it is better to be home.
