A Memorable Evening at Ballroom Fever

A Memorable Evening at Ballroom Fever

Who knew you could plan a ladies’ only event at a ballroom dancing studio?  I certainly had no idea, but luckily we just had to ask, and our wish was granted!  Ten of us showed up to Ballroom Fever on a Tuesday evening and were treated to an evening of laughs and delight as we learned some fun dance steps and celebrated one friend’s birthday.  None of us has any formal dance training -aside from the odd class as a child- and many of us don’t consider ourselves to be particularly coordinated, for that matter, so we weren’t entirely sure what to expect.

It was a very relaxed atmosphere.  We were the only group in the main part of the studio and we gathered in the waiting area sipping on some pre-made cocktails and munching on some snacks as we waited for everyone to arrive.  When it was time to start, our reassuring, effervescent, talented instructor allowed us to choose if we would face the mirror or face away from the mirror, which further served to put us at ease.  We chose facing the mirror because if we were going to do this, we realized facing the mirror, while embarrassing, would help us learn the steps faster.  Incredibly, she started us with Salsa, which seemed like it would be too difficult to learn, but it was great!

After a break, she showed us how to Tango!  I, for one, was quite skeptical, but she kept the steps simple and built our confidence.  Before you knew it, people were volunteering to learn the lead parts and we had some friendly competition brewing.

Afterwards, we were treated to a Tango demonstration by the award-winning professional dancer owners, who happen to be married, and are mesmerizing to watch.  We took some fun group photos, contemplated whether we could convince our significant others to join us for formal lessons, and gathered information about Ballroom Fever’s Social Dance program, which is a fun, less intimidating way to experience dance.  Check out the info about Ballroom Fever’s Social Dance program on their website – you will be surprised by how much fun you can have!
