Girls' Weekend Getaway: Off-season Cape Cod, MA

Girls' Weekend Getaway: Off-season Cape Cod, MA

What’s more exciting? Girls weekend? Or, off-season Cape Cod? When you combine both, you get a fun-filled trip. Despite the fact that we just started immersing ourselves in our new jam-packed schedule for our kids’ new school year with sports and extracurricular activities, we and a few of our friends were able to squeeze in a quick girls’ weekend getaway. We got to catch up with each other and enjoyed Cape Cod in the off-season.

Cape Cod in early September was surprisingly wonderful! The weather was perfect. Beaches were not crowded, and the water was still warm to swim. There was no long wait for a table at coveted restaurants. More importantly, there was no traffic. We got to do all the fun summer activities including going to the beach, watching the sunset, hiking the National Seashore trail, eating delicious meals at chic restaurants, and shopping at beautiful boutiques, many of which had end-of-summer deals. Our quick girls’ trip to Cape Cod in September was such a great way to extend our summer.

Here we share our itinerary:

Friday:

Sesuit Harbor Café – a great place for fresh seafood with a beautiful harbor view. Only outdoor seating. Best lobster roll in Cape Cod, if not in New England. No lines in the off-season!

Scout Vintage – a French country inspired home décor shop. Items are mostly new. Many home and garden items imported from France. Great fashion jewelry and a small collection of seasonal clothes. They have a nice end-of-summer sale which included summer clothing and Turkish beach towels.

Gatherings at Home – a beautiful, curated vintage home décor shop. The store is made up of multiple vendors, but everything looks cohesive. They carry small furniture, decorative pieces, new artwork by local artists, and vintage jewelries.

Gray’s Beach – a great place to watch the sunset with the backdrop of marsh and a boardwalk.

Tumi Cerviche Bar and Ristorante – a Peruvian, Italian kitchen serving amazing food and gorgeous cocktails. Great prices, too! Reservations recommended, especially during peak summer season.

Saturday:

National Seashore – various hiking trails, one of which leads to Coast Guard Beach. There’s also a bike trail. Don’t forget bug spray!

Chatham

- Beach House Grill – a Chatham Bar Inn restaurant located seaside with gorgeous view. Serving seafood and cocktails.

- Chatham Fish Market – a great place to view the seals. Seals sunbathe on the beach and swim under the piers waiting to feast on fish from fishing boats docking at the fish market.

- Chatham Lighthouse and Beach – a small, but notable lighthouse across the street from a pretty beach. Parking available.

- Main Street Chatham – many cute shops, including clothing, home décor, jewelry, and galleries. Also includes ice cream parlors, coffee shops, candy store, and restaurants. Everything you need is here. Great place to browse and spend the afternoon.

Mayflower Beach – a beautiful white sand beach. The water is warm and calm, great for swimming. Another wonderful location for watching the sunset.

Sunday:

Grumpy’s – an old-fashioned diner serving great breakfast. Extensive menu. Get there early to beat the line. And follow the entrance rules, People!

Cuffy’s – A great Cape Cod souvenir store. It’s a destination with beautiful buildings, endless offerings of tasteful souvenirs, including clothes, home goods, toys, and candies.
