Winter Escape to Palm Beach, Florida
Need a quick escape from winter? A few girlfriends and I had the chance to do just that. We spent the weekend in Palm Beach, Florida. It was a short trip, but sufficient time to recharge in the warm sun. Palm Beach is easy to get to and most cities have direct flights there, which is important if you do not have lots of time. Palm Beach is also great if you have more time and quite popular with families and snowbirds.
We stayed at the Marriott’s Ocean Pointe at Palm Beach Shores. The resort has everything you need: ocean front view, the beach, dining, pools, and activities for everyone. It is great for a multi-generational family! Your kids, parents and you will have fun and be entertained. The resort has four outdoor pools (3 for grownups, 1 for kids), a whirlpool, and a splash pad. There are lawn activities, fire pits, a children’s activities center, and fitness classes. The resort also organizes events for most nights. During our stay, there was a Havana Night with Latin food and live music, a Sangria and Paella making and sampling, and Casino Night. There are many fitness classes, including pool exercises, yoga, tennis round robin, and a walking tour. A half mile walk from the resort to a nearby marina leads you to a cute gift shop and Sailfish Marina Restaurant, which has traditional American fare and live music regularly. You can book boat tours, fishing trips, or paddle board trips from the marina.
For more restaurant options, check out Jupiter, which is a twenty minute car ride away from the resort. Having a car rental is a good idea if you’re staying in Palm Beach more than a few days. You can also Uber/Lyft to any of the places. Jetty’s Waterfront Restaurant and its next door, sister restaurant, U-Tiki Beach, have great menus and waterfront view of the light house. U-Tiki Beach is casual and can be loud, while Jetty’s is more upscale. We had pre-dinner drinks at U-Tiki and hung out at the patio while we waited for our table at Jetty’s.
Staying longer in Palm Beach? There are plenty of local attractions. For art lovers, check out the Henry Morrison Flagler Museum. Need a break from the beach or pool? Worth Avenue district offers some more dining and upscale shopping. More kid friendly options include Loggerhead Marinelife Center, Palm Beach Zoo, and Rapids Water Park (summer season only). If you’re fans of baseball, check out Roger Dean Stadium, which hosts the St. Louis Cardinals and Miami Marlins spring training. And yes, there’re golf courses, too!
