Life Lessons: Composting - How NOT to
In this latest edition of “Life Lessons,” we will be focusing on what NOT to do. For instance, when setting up a compost bin for the first time, perhaps you should make sure you close the bin properly. This may minimize the chance that your dog will break into the compost bin and eat all of the bread you have placed into the bin. It also may have been helpful to not put so much bread into the bin on your first attempt - especially knowing that bread is one of your dog’s favorite treats.
Ditto for your neighbor’s dog who visits frequently and now thinks your compost bin is actually the place where you’ve hidden snacks and he just needs to figure out how to open it.
Then, of course, there are the many animals living in the backyard who will find a way into the compost bin however necessary…
We have to make some changes to our composting procedures and will report back…
