Life Lessons: Growing Up Through Life Experiences

Our oldest was in a car accident yesterday - his friend was driving them home from work.

Neither my son nor his best friend did a good job communicating, so I wrongly assumed it was a sideswipe incident on a city street because the only detail they provided me through text was “the side mirror was damaged.”

Turned out to be a bad accident on the highway involving police cars and an ambulance, and when our son got home he said I didn’t have the proper level of concern. After he described the accident, I informed him he needs to work on his communication skills!

Thankfully, all involved are fine, which actually sounds like a miracle. Apparently, there was speed involved and merging traffic and they weren’t able to stop in time, which resulted in hitting not only another car, but also the guard rail. Thank goodness for seatbelts!

Reflecting on the accident, our son realizes they were driving too fast and the speed was completely unnecessary. He said he remembers learning in driving school that the difference between driving 80 and 65 is mere minutes, so it is better to arrive safely. Quoting driving school?! Who is this kid?

Then he said, “Why do people have to be so stupid?  Do I have to do everything?”  I replied, “How do you think I feel?”
